Thanks to the generosity of households up and down the UK, some 130,000 Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war in Ukraine have been offered homes here. But there is now a growing crisis as many hosts are unable to continue to offer accommodation for more than the 6 months to which they originally committed.
Added to this, more Ukrainians are now seeking refuge as conditions in Ukraine deteriorate following a new wave of Russian missile attack on cities and civilian infrastructure. The continuing exodus is only likely to gather pace as winter approaches.
If you think you might be able to offer accommodation to one or more Ukrainian refugees, whether for several months or only a few weeks, please get in touch with us.
If you’re already in a position to make an offer of accommodation, please complete our short accommodation offer form, giving brief details of what you can offer, for how many and what sort of refugees, and for how long.
If you are considering offering accommodation but want to know more first, you can either contact us directly or come to one of our events. We’ll be happy to introduce you to existing hosts who can talk to you directly about their experience and the issues they have encountered. The great majority will tell you that hosting is an immensely rewarding experience.
In relation to all offers of accommodation, we’ll be working closely with Waverley BC (or any other relevant local authority) to ensure that matches are appropriate and all necessary safeguarding and other checks are performed. We will also help ensure that any other necessary support is in place.
